An overview of the costs in selling a home.

 

Conveyancing

  • Your conveyancing is usually a fixed fee service. It includes professional fees for advice and consultation. Part of the conveyancing fee is often requested to be paid upfront for disbursements they pay to prepare a contract for sale.

Preparation Costs

  • Preparing your home for sale includes, packing, clearing/ storage and cleaning.

Agent Fees

  • The costs for a selling agent vary from each individual agent however most will charge a marketing fee and then a selling fee.
    • The marketing fee is the amount payable to advertise the home. Similar to the conveyancers' disbursements this is the outlay of advertising
    • The selling fee is payable only if the property sells and is paid on settlement of the sale. Normally it's a percentage of the sale price or a set amount.

  • The most common larger costs that apply from the government are Stamp Duty when purchasing your next property or if selling capital gains tax may be payable.
